About Glenelg Libraries

The Glenelg Shire Council established a stand alone library service in July 2005, following the wind up of the Glenelg Regional Library Corporation.

The area served by the Glenelg Council is located in the far south-western part of Victoria, approximately 370 kilometres from the nearest capital city - Melbourne.  The catchment population is approximately 20,000 over an area of 6,210 square kilometres.

Branch libraries are located at Portland, Casterton and Heywood with Outreach locations at Nelson, Merino, Digby, and Dartmoor.

The Glenelg Libraries provide library collections of around 35000 items and comprise books, magazines, videos, CD's, cassettes, newspapers, CD-Rom, and E-books. Library staff assist clients to search and locate information in our own collection, as well as using computer resources to assist in the research of topics via the internet. Printing, online databases and other various software programs are also available, as well as basic Internet and IT training.

Other services include school holiday programs, story-times, art exhibitions, and a book chat group. Please refer to our events calendar in the What's On Page for more information.
