Using the Library

Joining the Library

Membership is free.

You can join at any of our branches, or online via the Library Catalogue.

Current identification is required, e.g. driver's licence, rate notice, or utility account at your current address.

There is no minimum age to join, but those under 18 must have a parent or guardian as guarantor. Parent/guardian must present identification as above, and provide a signature.

 

Our Collection

Our collection includes books (including large print), magazines, newspapers, audio books and kits, videos, DVD's, Music CD's, as well as 24 hour access to e-books and online databases through the website.

 

Borrowing

How many items can I borrow?

There is no limit to the total number of items per borrower, but some limits are placed on certain materials, as follows:

 

     Express Collection (Short Term Loans) - 5 per borrower at any one time.

     Videos - 2 per borrower at any one time

     DVD's - 2 per borrower at any one time

     Talking books - 5 per borrower at any one time

     Music CD's - 2 per borrower at any one time

     How long can I have library materials?

 

The standard loan period is 3 weeks. Your items can be extended, provided they have not been requested by another borrower.

 

      Standard loan - 3 weeks - up to 2 renewals

      Short Term loan (Express collection) - 2 weeks - NO renewals

      DVD's and Videos - 3 weeks - NO renewals

      Music CD's - 2 weeks - NO renewals

 

 

Overdue Fines

The Glenelg Shire Council issues overdue notices and charges fines to encourage prompt return of library material by patrons, thereby making it available for access and loan by other members of the community

 

$2.00 per adult item per week (up to a maximum of $10 per item)

$1.00 per junior/youth item per week (up to a maximum of $10 per item)

 

Lost Library Items

If a member has borrowed an item that has been destroyed, lost, stolen or damaged, the member must pay for the replacement cost of the item, or a portion thereof. A processing fee may also be charged.

 

Lost Library Card

It is a condition of use of the Library that your Library card be presented at all times when borrowing Library material. If your card is lost or stolen, please notify the library as soon as possible.

Replacement cards are available at all branches for a cost of $5.50

 

Inter-Library Loans Service

If a book you need is not available at a Glenelg Libraries location, you may request the item through the Inter-Library Loans service, which gives you access to items from other library collections. Items are available according to the loan terms and conditions of the lending library.

 

     Charges apply for this service:

     Non-fiction $3.50

     Fiction $6.50
