The briny smell of the sea drifts in from the shore on crisp Autumn day. Maybe you get a hint of diesel and old fish wafting in, and a pile of rope lies coiled on the dockside waiting for the old ferry to get in. Out beyond the bay, the sailing club are wrapping up for the day, and head for home. Think ships, boats and sail, rope and mast. Think brass and teak and anchors. Entries to be delivered to your library branch by Monday 3 June

What do you think of when you think of Wuthering Heights? The landscape? The characters? Or is it something else? Be inspired by this famous novel by Emily Bronte. It may conjure vision of old English houses and stormy moors, or maybe you’ll think of something quite different. Let your imagination be your guide. Entries to be delivered to your library branch by Monday 29 July

Linocut printing involves cutting away from a block of linoleum and inking and printing the uncut areas. This technique creates bold clear lines, making even simple designs dramatic and interesting, with the added bonus of being able to reprint your artwork multiple times. It's a fun technique for both beginner and advanced artists. Make a linoprint on any subject or theme. Entries to be delivered to your library branch by Monday 30 September

Folk arts reflect the cultural life of a community. Traditional folk arts are usually expressed in practical objects like homewares, personal items, textiles, furniture and home decoration, but also included painting particularly in domestic landscapes and portraits. Recent years have also seen a resurgence in new work which is inspired by tradition, but given a modern twist, with new colour pallettes, modern materials and contemporary subject matter. All media welcome. Entries to be delivered to your library by Monday 2 December
